*Peeks In*

Hey people-who-read-my-blog. All two and a half of you.

Yeah, I know I haven’t been around here for a while. Things have been quite busy-busy for me, especially lately. I can’t believe the semester is drawing to a close so freaking fast. It’s scary. I have a huge load of things I need to do and the days zoom by so fast I don’t even know where one ends and the next one begins.

This upcoming week, I’ve got some projects to get out of the way—-namely two presentations/reports. They shouldn’t be too hard to do though. I hope to get them out of the way as fast as possible.

I’m also pushing for another Scribe issue to come out this semester, but that’s going slower than anticipated. I only have a small handful of articles from the 13 or so that I’ve been planning on receiving. This is pushing the date I was planning on releasing the Scribe further away, but I’m not trying to let it bug me. I’ve got enough on my plate as it is.

In other news, I’ve been fighting a cold for a while but it’s finally starting to clear up which is a relief.

In yet more news, Lana left to Canada for a month yesterday. I just finished talking with her online—-she’s in the London Heathrow airport on a six-hour stopover before she boards another airplane to Montreal. We turned on our webcams  and she showed me her “capsule”. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, hehehehe. It’s like a mini-hotel room right inside one of the terminals in the airport. It has a bed that turns into a couch, a TV, full bathroom and even lights that can vary from really bright to pitch black. Food that you order comes pretty quickly too–like in 20-25 minutes. I think having a place like that is freaking awesome when you’re in an airport for hours at a time. You can stretch out and sleep, you can take a shower, watch TV, eat—-all in comfort and privacy as you wait for your next flight.

My dad left to Dubai for a day today—-he should be back tomorrow night. So I’m basically the only one in the house right now, all in the space of two days. I miss them both already.

Other than that, not much else is going on at the moment. Like I mentioned before, I did have a couple of things I was writing about in a post I saved to my Drafts folder, but those were things that happened on November 5th and 6th so I kind of have to summarize them a bit more before posting them.

I just got tired of leaving this place abandoned for so long. Maybe once my head doesn’t feel like it’s being pulled in several different directions at once, I can come back and write the way I used to.

‘Til next time, let me leave you with this lovely Pajiba link to a real-time review of Twilight. I thought it was pretty freaking hilarious. Enjoy!

all that glitters is not gold..every time is not the same..some time we win some time we loss that’s the track of life

You know how, when you have a Hotmail account, once you press “sign out” it takes you to the MSN main page? Needless to say, this page is different depending on what country you’re in. I’m not sure how it works, exactly, but I have four Hotmail accounts (yes, I may be a bit crazy) and two of them send me to the MSN Arabia page and the other two send me to the MSN Canada page.

The Canadian page is what anyone would expect. A little bit of news here, a little bit of celebrity gossip there. The layout is big and fresh and the headlines are like what you’d find in most magazines or newspapers—-headlines like “Betancourt thanks Canadians for support during captivity” or, less importantly, “A Sci-Fi Travel Guide (In Case You Get Stuck in a Spaceship)”

Sure quite a bit of it is silly, but for the most part, it’s written well enough to be published.

But on MSN Arabia, the writing is terrible and the comments on the articles (especially the gossip ones—-the news ones are generally okay) are downright embarrassing. Check this one out about Avril Lavigne, it’s so freaking horrible. The article sounds like something a fifth grader wrote and the comments are beyond stupid. I understand that most of the commenters speak English as a second language and so their spelling/grammar can leave much to be desired, but the stuff they say is also freaking silly. Like this guy who headlines his comment to be afriend:

“can any boday give me email avril lavigne i want to be for she afriend”

Dude—-hate to break it to ya—-but I seriously doubt Avril Lavigne even reads this stuff…plus getting her personal e-mail is never gonna happen. You could always send her fan-mail but that won’t make you her “friend”. What is up with some people?

Heh, I don’t even know why I’m ranting about this. I guess I’m wondering why MSN Arabia has to suck so much while the same site from other countries looks like a perfectly fine online magazine—-nothing mind-bending or anything, but respectable enough. Meh…

On a final note—-the title of my post is a comment from another badly written article on Jennifer Garner not being able to auction off a signed DVD of hers at her daughter’s school. (An auction established to raise funds, apparently). Philosophical, eh?

Upper Dater

I thought I’d update from the last post, hehe. We went back to City Center today because Lana found a cover that she sort of liked (wasn’t quite what she wanted, but definitely better than the other options) and decided to go for it anyways. So the mission’s finally been accomplished, hehe. We did pass by Al Nasser (dunno if I spelled that right) street because there is a Samsung store there as well, but the covers they had were indeed too big for Lana’s version of the Omnia. Plus they were rather pricey. The one Lana got from CC cost 50 riyals while Samsung was selling theirs for 100.

Driving around today was nice. Madi wasn’t feeling too well so she stayed at home—-it was just Lana and me. There were some crazies (of the “weaver” sub-type…the people who like to weave in and out of traffic without using signals or any kind of safety protocol) but not too many. We also got lost a couple of times, but since Doha is about the size of a dot (map-wise anyways, heh) it’s relatively easy to get back on track. You just have to find some kind of landmark that is familiar enough to pinpoint a way back to a more familiar road. But because of our accidental detour it took us about 15-20 more minutes than originally planned to get to City Center. Ah well, at least we got there.

We also, by some miracle, managed to find some pretty damn good parking. City Center is notorious for making you spend several minutes going around and around and around trying to find a space. But we managed to find one just as the car occupying it was getting out. (So much for tailing a couple with their shopping cart. I was slowly following them hoping they’d lead me to their car so I could take their spot. I just ended up not curving fast enough when they turned, and seriously ticking off the cars behind me :-P ) I managed to reverse-park for maybe the third time ever. I always need instructions from Lana but I think I’m getting better at it. (I parked rather crookedly, but at least I didn’t take up two spaces :-P )

Our television’s reciever decided to die yesterday for reasons that remain unknown to me. Perhaps it is not fond of our taste in television, although I’m sure we enjoy a higher class of TV than most of the reality-show freaks of today. (Technically I don’t really like watching TV unless it’s one of the few shows I like. Usually, I find the Internet more entertaining). Anyways, since we were heading off to City Center we passed by Carrefour and picked up another reciever. Lana’s downstairs trying it out right now. While we were there, I was distracted by a bunch of TV’s that were showing a Judo (could have been Jiu Jitsu but I’m leaning more towards Judo) woman’s tournament. There was a Korean versus what I think was a Belgian. The Belgian lady pinned the Korean about six times. It was awesome. (I wasn’t rooting for either one, I just thought the moves were great). I miss the martial arts…

And, to round off this ramble, I’ll leave you with a dose of damned-lame-but-oddly-funny:

You Dooon’t Saaay???

Howdy fellas!

Well, here I am. *Tips hat*

I really want to resuscitate this-here blog o’mine so I have arrived to do just that. I’ll start off randomly.

Does anyone find it odd that I was ready to brutally disembowel everyone that had anything to do with that abomination of a movie that called itself Transformers 2 and yet…and yet I actually enjoyed GI Joe: Rise of Cobra?

Maybe it’s because Megan Fox (who needs a kick in the face) wasn’t in it…and the ending wasn’t drawn out to the point where sitting in my seat felt like torture and no robot heaven was involved. Granted GI Joe was quite a tacky movie, but I don’t know…I found it so much easier to watch and enjoy than Transformers 2. (For the record, I never watched the first one).

I also swam today in a pool that did the opposite of cooling me down in this lovely Qatar summer heat. The water was gleaming and the pool was amazingly clean, but it was so WARM! If your goal is to simply get wet, then sure it’s all good. But if it’s to also cool down in a refreshing chlorinated mini-lake, then nope, mission not accomplished. Oooh no.

But, on the bright side, it was warm enough to make me jump right in, as opposed to how long it usually takes me to get used to chillier waters, hehe. But it was still fun and I got a bit tanned :-D

(If you noticed I didn’t use any transition whatsoever from the topic of Transformers vs. GI Joe to swimming, well, it’s because I didn’t feel like it. I apologize for whatever confusion that may have caused :-P )

Escargot

I feel like I should be doing something important…I just have no idea what. And it’s bothering the hell out of me.

I should empty out the cupboards in my room, do some re-organizing for when Lana comes back. I’m also thinking of going for a drive tomorrow—-I’ll take Madi with me. Today we hung out in her room and watched Be Kind Rewind together. Hehehehe, it’s a pretty cute movie—-I really liked it. Although it had its WTH? moments, it was very enjoyable and made me crack up a few times.

:-P

Oh, and Madi also got a new laptop!!!!! It’s freaking awesome! It’s a Toshiba, like mine, but mucho cooler. We were all in Carrefour yesterday looking at laptops when she saw one she thought she liked but wasn’t sure. My dad was gonna buy it for her, but wanted to ask a few questions first, but no salesman was around and it was seriously crowded. So we said we’d come back the next day to get it, that way Madi could also sleep on it.  However, my dad went out today and got it for her without saying anything, hehe. It was waiting in its box (came with its own laptop bag too!) right outside her bedroom door. Now she’s busy using it to transfer files into her brand-new 500 GB hard drive. I’m really happy for her—-this is her very first brand-new laptop. Her previous one was my dad’s before she adopted it as her own, so it’s cool she’s getting a computer that’s hers to begin with to do what she likes.

Well, that’s my news of the day for now…I hope to come up with something a little more exciting later on, hehe.

Guilty Feet Have Got No Rhythm

I’m alive!!

I swear I am. Seriously. Got a pulse, heartbeat, blinking and everything.

I can’t believe I haven’t updated this since the beginning of the month. I even have a draft of a post all written up but I didn’t publish it. Still thinking if I want to do it.

Anyways—-I really ought to sleep soon since I have work tomorrow. On the bright side—-it’s my last day of work! Then I’ll be FREE!!!!!! And, hopefully, I’ll update this thing more often.

*Stares at date of last post and shakes head*

I visit my blog a lot you know. Still there are times where I have something to say but it just doesn’t come out right and then I end up abandoning the place for weeks. It’s shameful, I tell ya.

Just to allude to the title of the post—-I just finished listening to Seether’s version of George Michael’s Careless Whisper. It’s surprisingly good. Check it out, if you so wish:

That being said, I will come back soon, I promise. And my I be smote with fire ants and killer bees if I don’t. Or something like that.

Today’s Useless Bit of Info:

I forgot my watch at home today.

It SUCKS.

EARTH! FIRE! WIND! WATER! HEART!

Weather outside is FREAKING WINDY!!!

I got a record number of grains of sand in my eyes. I also think my face has been naturally exfoliated.

I’m in class, so I can’t exactly make this long and rambly. I’m sure you’re very disappointed. But I’m looking out the window and the leaves on the trees are trying so hard to stay attached.

Anyways, I gotta go!

You’re YES then You’re NO

Katy Perry is currently stuck in my head.

There seems to be a rather ‘different’ sleeping trend going on with me lately. Very different.

See, I have early-morning classes every day of the week this semester. Under normal circumstances, I would have 7:30 classes four days a week, with Tuesdays being at 8:30. But since I have the same teacher for the majority of my morning classes (which is no surprise since I’m in two of his courses) and he’s an awesomecakes kinda guy, he pushed the timings of his classes to 7:50 and 8:00. So I don’t have to get up quite as horrendously early as I usually have to.

Still, hauling myself out of bed every morning is a task tantamount to carrying a 100-pound boulder strapped between my shoulder blades up Mount Kiliminjaro. I always looked at myself as “not a morning person” in every sense of the term. If it’s not noon or nearly noon, it’s not time to get up. Heck, 10:00 a.m. is my idea of “Hey, I got up early today”. On school mornings, I finally yank myself out of bed at around 7:00, which doesn’t leave much room for anything besides washing up, brushing my teeth, jumping into my clothes, grabbing my stuff and making a beeline for the door.

But on weekends? When there’s no college to force my lazy self out of bed? I have been known to snooze peacefully ’til at least 11:00, and I easily go back to sleep if I happened to wake up earlier than that. I can’t lie—-I like my sleep a lot. It’s just the way I am.

“What’s different, then?” you ask? Well. It’s now 8:42 a.m……and it’s a Friday. (Which is most likely equal to a Saturday wherever you are in the world. Qatar has a special week thing going on where Sunday-Thursday is your work week and Friday-Saturday is your weekend). I have been awake for a little over an hour now. Yes—-you heard that right. I got up at 7:30 on a weekend—-easy! Could’ve gotten up earlier too, but I stayed in bed a bit.

Why is it impossible for me to be this chipper in the morning on weekdays? And why can’t I sleep in like normal people when I have no college to worry about? What the goddamn HELL? I thought I had my sleeping patterns all figured out, and now all of a sudden I’m left to wonder why I jump out of bed on weekends and on weekdays I have to make a daily Herculean effort to drag myself through my morning routine.

Trust me, it’s not the fact I have classes I don’t like. My morning classes aren’t bad enough for me to seriously not look forward to them. I am honestly too sleepy to get out of bed. My eyelids are heavy and throwing the blankets off feels like blasphemy. I also don’t sleep that late—-not later than 11:00 or midnight—-if that—-and I get up at 7:00 (after pressing the Snooze button on my alarm 7,982 times). So it’s not a sickeningly short sleep either. So why I can get out of bed early on weekends and not do so on weekdays is slightly perplexing.

Still, getting up in the morning on a free day is kinda cool. Day lasts longer and you have more time to laze around. Or, you know, really get some stuff done. Or something. Hehehe :-P

Pointless ramble—-I know. But hey! Sharing is caring!

PS: It’s FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH! Ooooooooo! (I’m not superstitious, I actually really like this day, hehe).

Nuh-Uh-Uh!

Holy crap!!!!

It’s been practically a month.

And I’m so, so, so, so sorry! I really have been busy lately, and even when I wasn’t—-it takes a special mood for me to want to update this site. A mood, that, for some reason, has not paid me a visit in a while.

Anyways—-here’s an update for y’all.

School started on the 11th, and it’s been going along pretty well. Just finished the third week, actually. Days have been going by pretty quickly. I’m taking six courses, and they’re all pretty good save for one because I have a teacher I can’t stand.

Not that he’s especially ingratiating or anything, it’s just…I don’t know. He’s got this monotone, slightly nasally annoying voice and he’s not all that pleasant of a character to be around. I like calling him Bruce Wayne because his middle name is Bruce and his last name is Swain. Only I kinda stress on the ’s’. Like “Oh, I have that stupid EP class with Bruce ssssWayne.” Poor guy’s on crutches now though, because he had some kind of procedure done on his knee. So I’m trying not to dwell on the fact that I don’t like him very much.

I got a couple of big assignments due already on Sunday. I have to meet up with my partner this weekend, maybe later on today or tomorrow, to finish them up. I also had three tests last week. One I aced, one I did meh in (73%) and another I could’ve done better but I think I injected enough BS to do a good enough job. Or at least it’s what I hope.
