I had a great Halloween yesterday. It was the first time in a long time I actually celebrated it. I reserved the clubhouse at my compound a week ago and yesterday my friends came by at around 5:00 or 5:30 (though they said they’d be there by 4:00, but they’re never on time).
My uncle, his wife and his two little kids also came to visit us yesterday, and it was good to see them all together again
Batoul and Hadi are the essence of cute. Even Batoul dressed up a little—-my mom put some makeup on her after she saw me having my own face done. (I have to give mucho amazing props to my mom for the awesome makeup job as well as the fact she lent me her custom abaya-with-a-hood to wear over my black clothes). I even took Batoul to see my friends and they even took pictures next to her! Heh. She’s so cute.
Here are a couple of pictures of what I looked like, albeit maybe a bit blurry:
Isn’t it awesome? I didn’t really know what kind of look I was really going for, but I guess you could say it was quite Mortisha Addams inspired. (And Marilyn Manson inspired too, really, heh!) I was wearing a black sleeveless shirt, black pants and black boots underneath the abaya as well as a couple of black bracelets, a long necklace and dark blue nail polish. I was also supposed to be wearing a ring but I took it off when I was washing my hands at home and forgot to put it on again, so I went for the day without it.
We had a really good time. I got my laptop and we watched Russell Peters’ new comedy routine. (Red White and Brown). It was pretty good—-but damn if the guy doesn’t curse too much. What was funny was that there was a kid in the audience that he noticed and he poked fun at the dad for bringing him. (Honestly, what was that dad thinking?) But Russell Peters is a good way to kill some time when you’re hungry and the pizza’s taking more than an hour to make it to your house. We didn’t even order enough of it–we were fourteen people in all and only three large pizzas, some drinks and a couple of salads made it to the table. The only extra food was some chocolate cake and some finger food (pigs-in-blankets, fatayer and spring rolls) I got from my house. Honestly, next time I should take care of the refreshments…my friends are notorious skinflints and don’t like spending a lot of money so they end up under-buying sometimes.
We also watched Mirrors later on into the night, which left me kinda disturbed (thanks to one graphic scene that made my jaw tingle) and underwhelmed. I spent most of the movie talking with Jayson though, who seemed to be as unimpressed with what was going on as I was. (We kept making up plot-prediciting scenarios. Often they turned out to be correct, which is never a good sign when it comes to horror/thrillers). Plus I find making fun of movies to be infinitely more fun than just watching them–especially if their aim is to scare you. (But if it’s an honest-to-goodness well-made scary movie, then I would watch it and be terrified and then comment on how good it was. Other than that, it will recieve nothing but my cynicism and scorn, much to the chagrin of other people).
As for who came as what, here’s the list:
Lina was a cat in a store-bought cat costume. She was really cute!
Lina’s sister was a vampire–though she wore regular clothes. She dabbed her face with makeup and wore fangs.
Faisal was one of the clown-masked bank robbers in the first scene of The Dark Knight. (Wore blue from top to bottom, a pair of latex gloves, held a screwdriver to kill people with and the clown mask).
Jayson was Hiro Nakamura—-which was easy to pull off since he looks eerily like him anyways. He wore a suit with a tie, a jacket and carried a plastic samurai sword. (Which he kept trying to intimidate people with). Oh, and Hiro Nakamura is a character in the Heroes series, in case you were unaware.
Adam came dressed normally save for a golden happy-face mask (kinda?) and a Grim Reaper sickle.
Haji was a pedophile–decked out in large geeky glasses and a thick coat.
Hoon didn’t have a costume so we made him dress like a girl in Madi’s blue skirt and one of her tops. He was highly ashamed. Mikey, however, did not hesitate to wear the skirt and declare it made him warm and even proceeded to do suggestive dance moves while wearing it. (Mikey had put some crazy clown makeup on but washed it off later–even though it did look good).
Oh, and the creme de la creme was Kareem–he was dressed as a French maid. Like he doesn’t get made fun of enough when he’s dressed normally.
Eepa was…I’m not sure. A picture would describe it better. He had smeared blue makeup on his face and borrowed one of my abayas:
There were more people but they didn’t dress as anything–either they were broke or didn’t come prepared with anything to try on. Which was all right. We had an awesome time!
Finally, just to round this off, here’s a picture of me, Faisal and my cousin Batoul (who doesn’t look too comfortable, seeing who she’s being carried next to):
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!

Oh wow! You look awesome in that costume! Very scary! But my costume was way scarier. “Arab Terrorist”
People almost called security when they saw me
Happy Halloween!

I love the pix! I love the descriptions! Now I’m waiting to love the rest of the pix! Yalla get them soon dude!!
Sounds like a cool time, and yes, Mirrors sounds…..fascinating. Really….ok I couldn’t keep a straight face. It sounds quite sad. And is Keifer really not good unless he’s in 24? I thought he did this other movie what was somewhat lauded…no?

Qwaider: Thanks! Heh, “Arab Terrorist”…yeah, I can see how they would want to call security on you. That’s gotta be high on the “scary Halloween costume” scale
Lana: I got the pics! I don’t know if I’m allowed to post ‘em up on Facebook though, seeing as how some people are cross-dressing there and they don’t seem too proud of it. And yes, Mirrors was the most awesome movie ever made in the history of awesome movies. Really. No, I mean it. Really. Actually, I think Kiefer Sutherland’s a generally good actor–but he seriously sucked in this movie. I guess the plot was way too stupid for him to do anything with it.

Cool costumes! You look quite gothic. Also — holy poodles, your hair is long. It’s growing like crazy! Are you taking some sort of hormone drugs, there, Jubne?
I find Eepa’s eyes behind that mask very disconcerting… I can’t look at it for long… *shudders*

Lana: Yeah, I’ll send them over MSN sometime. I completely forgot to do that yesterday–plus my headache wasn’t helping much. I still have yet to comment on your FB pics!
Kris: Ooooh, you commented! Finally! Hehehe, yeah, I do look pretty gothic. My costume was generally very well-received among my rather insane peers. As for my hair…well…you’ve got me. I’ve been sipping rat’s blood mixed with canine toe nails every other week at the full moon. It’s tough, but it’s helped.
I’ll be sure to pass your creepy-eyed-Eepa comment to him. He would probably appreciate that extra dose of scare he gave you.
