Shimmy Shimmy Coco Pop

Well, what do you know? It seems like fourth time’s the charm! They actually got my schedule right!!!! I’m taking 23 hours (six courses) and none of them were stuff I’d already taken/earned credit for. Woot! No standing in a horrifically long line to get my schedule re-done! *Jigs*

Though I did hit one snag yesterday. When I was supposed to pay up, the card decided to give me a very pleasant surprise by telling me there weren’t sufficient funds. I tried it twice and it still refused to work. I had to call my mom who contacted my dad (in Lebanon) and told him what my problem was. I ended up cutting the registration process short and finishing it off today after my father transferred money. At least that was the only thing that went wrong though. Woot!!!

I only went to one class so far. Usually people don’t go to class the first day because all the instructors do is give you the course outline (and spend time reading it out to you) and then introduce themselves and the course. I had missed my first class because I was busy completing my registration but I did attend my double-period Banking course. The teacher seems really nice and the class is pretty small (nine people, including me, only five of who showed up). She only kept us in for about a half-hour for a brief introduction and then let us go. I did have one more class, but it was Report Writing (it’s in the same vein as Business Communications I and II) so I knew I wouldn’t be doing much of anything if I attended. Besides, I’m not even on the attendance list since I just registered today, so there was no real reason for me to go.

Ooof…

I almost can’t believe it. School’s starting sooner than I thought it did! I have to register for my courses tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. and I’m pretty sure I’m not going to be finishing all that quickly. (That is, if memories of past CNA-Q registration fiascoes serve me right). Since this is the fourth time I’m registering at this college, I’m squashing any hopes that they’ll get my schedule right the first time. I mean, if they messed it up three times they can mess it up again I’m sure. It’s one of those unfortunate things you can count on but wish it would let you down once in a while.

I still have no idea when the college’ll decide to get with the times already and make online registration possible. Sheesh!

Anyways, besides registration and school starting in a couple of days, not much else is going on. I’m fasting the few days I missed during last year’s Ramadan before this one comes up on the first or second of September. It should be….interesting, for lack of a better word. It’s my first Ramadan without Lana or Madi…and their first Ramadan with just each other. (I had one Ramadan with just Lana and me). I guess there’s firsts for everything and here’s just another one of them. *Sighs*

I saw my friends again yesterday—-most of them for the first time since I got back from Lebanon on the thirteenth. (Mikey and Jay popped by my place on the seventeenth, the day before Lana and Madi left to Canada). It was good seeing them again. I didn’t bring the souvenirs I got for them since I didn’t think I’d be seeing all of them and also since I wasn’t carrying a backpack and would thus have to lug the stuff around with me if I wasn’t able to give them all away. I needn’t have worried, everyone who I had bought something for was there…I just didn’t have the stuff with me. Ah, well, I’ll do that when college starts.

Oh, I finally wore my ‘Shoo?’ shirt…an awesome gift to myself from Lebanon. It’s white with the word “Shoo?” on it and beneath it in small letters “Lebanese Curiosity”. ‘Shoo?’ means ‘what?’ in Lebanese spoken Arabic (though Syrians say it too). It’s something of a joke amongst my friends since they keep going “SHOOOOO????” every time they see me, whether it’s in context or not. (There were several times where I’d be minding my own business and Mikey would stroll up to me and go “Shoooooo????”. I keep telling him he’s doing the equivalent of me randomly walking up to him and going “Whaaaaaaat?” in his face, but it hasn’t stopped him). It’s pretty much one of the few non-curse words they know in Arabic, so I guess I can’t blame them. So when I saw the shirt, it just seemed to fit so perfectly. Hehe, the group thought it was pretty funny. :-D

Oh, I also finally managed to organize the pictures that were taken on our trip to Dubai in early July. I’m going to pick out the best ones and Facebook them when I have the time. (Lana!!!! You didn’t give me the Lebanon pictures!!!! Can you send them to me using the MSN Sharing Folder?)

Well, it’s 11:00 and I’ve got an early wake up call tomorrow, so I’ll end it here. ‘Til next time, honeys.

Another Video

I saw this on Woulda Coulda Shoulda.

I laughed. You can too. Just watch!

This is Something Very Interesting:

Check this amazing man out. His name is Jamie Livingston and from March 31, 1979 (when he was 22) until October 25, 1997 he took at least one Poloroid photo every day!

I find this fascinating. There are several blogs that talk about him…and ever since they mentioned him on the news, his website’s been getting more and more traffic–even from places as far away as China! What is sad (and don’t read this if you’re not in the mood to be sad) is that he died on the day of the last Poloroid from cancer. He was only 41 years old. Just browsing through his pictures (over 6,000 of them!) offers a glimpse into a man who loved music (he played the accordion and was part of a musical circus troupe) and was a filmmaker and a big fan of the NY Mets baseball team.

How cool is it to take a Poloroid snapshot of your life every day for eighteen years? Pictures speak louder than words–check his site out!

PS: For those who don’t want to be depressed: Don’t go past April 1997…that’s when the cancer hits.

I Haven’t Posted Videos in a While

So I’ll present you with this one. It doesn’t matter how many times I watch it…it cracks me up every single time in all it’s 9-second glory. I present to you the Crazy Haitian Weatherman’s….Laugh.

Do enjoy, m’dears.

List

Some random points:

- We left Lebanon too soon.

- My sisters are leaving too soon. In nine-and-a-half hours to be exact. *Sobs*

- The Dark Knight was the most awesome Batman movie I have ever had the fortune to see.

- I have a ton of pictures I’m planning on Facebooking and blogging. I just have to have the patience to sort through them.

- I find watching Meryl Streep singing Mamma Mia in the movie a little…cringe-inducing. Is that wrong?

- Oliver is a fluff. And I don’t think he’ll ever stop being one.

- My room is mess. Must. Clean. Mess….Later.

I’m BAAAAACK!!!!

Yessiree! I’m back in Qatar!

I wasn’t able to do ANY updating from Lebanon because I had very limited access to the Internet. I only managed to get on Facebook a couple of times and check my e-mail. Other than that, couldn’t do much of anything Internet-wise.

I don’t when I’ll start updating regularly. Hopefully soon…I just got some stuff I need to get out of the way first. I just thought I’d breathe some life back into this blog of mine.

‘Til next time!
